Abstract
PURPOSE:To realize insulation of the terminal part of a plate for a battery, which has hollow electrode poles, and obtain gas discharge routes by placing an insulating spacer, which has a comb-teeth-like part at its end and has a projection and small holes on its upper surface, between the top of the plate and a current collecting plate which is used for connecting the terminal part of the plate to the electrode pole. CONSTITUTION:In a storage battery having hollow electrode poles 15 and 16 which also work for gas discharge, terminal parts 1' and 2' provided above plates 1 are connected to the electrode poles 15 and 16, with current collecting plates 5 interposed between the parts 1' and 2' and the electrode poles 15 and 16. An insulating spacer which has a comb-teeth-like part 21, Which is inserted between the terminal parts 1' or 2' of the plates 1, is provided between plates 1 and the current collecting plate 5. A projection 22 is provided on the upper surface of the above insulating spacer, and small holes 23 are provided near the projection 22. The projection 22 is fixed at the lower end of the hollow electrode pole 15 or 16 so that a gas discharge route is formed through the projection 22 and the small holes 23. As a result, any contact between the top of the plate 1 and its current collecting part can be prevented. Besides, a has discharge route leading from a space, which is formed between the projection 22 and the holes 23 due to gas pressure, to the hollow center of the pole 15 or 16 can be provided.
