Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce manufacturing cost and manufacturing time sharply by making the materal medium carbon steel or high tension steel for welded structure, hardening only parts that become edges, and cutting the punch and die by wire cut discharge working. CONSTITUTION:Material 11 is made by forging medium carbon steel or high tension steel for welded structure, and machining of rear side, grinding of upper and lower faces and working of a hole 11a for starting point of wire cut discharge working are made. Next, the material 11 is coated with black coating to facilitate absorption of laser beam, and only edge parts of the punch and die shown by alternate long and short dash lines are hardened by irradiation of laser beam placing the material 11 on a shifting device which is controlled by an NC device. After hardening, the material is cut to desired form by a wire cut discharge working machine to complete the punch 13 and die 14.
