Abstract
PURPOSE: To separate acidic organic compounds by the reverse-phase ion pair chromatography using an easily available aliphatic amine having different carbon number or the number of alkyl groups as a counter-ion substance.
CONSTITUTION: Acidic organic substances are separated by reverse-phase ion pair chromatography, using an aliphatic amine (e.g. n-butylamine, n-octylamine, di-n-butylamine, tri-n-amylamine, etc.) as the counter ion substance. The capacity ratio of the acidic substances changes, irrespective of the presence of neutral substances, with the change of the concentration of the aliphatic amine or the change of the number of alkyl groups in case of using an aliphatic amine having the same number of carbon atoms. Furthermore, the capacity ratio depends upon the kind of the amine, i.e. primary, secondary or tertiary amine, even if the aliphatic amines have the same carbon number. The aliphatic amine has a wide application range.
