Abstract

PURPOSE: An insect pest repellent that contains a specific trihaloacrylic ester as an active ingredient, thus showing high effects against inesct pests, especially cockroaches, mosquitoes and flies.
CONSTITUTION: The repellent contains a trihaloacrylic ester of the formula (X is Cl, Br, I; R is alkoxy) such as methyl 3-bromo-2,3-diiodoacrylate as an active ingredient. The compound of the formula is prepared by adding I2 to 3-propiolic acid, converting the product into the acid cloride by use of thionyl chloride and making the acid chloride to react with a compound of RH. The resultant product is mixed with a carrier and auxiliary agents and prepared into an appropriate form. The repellent is applied to hidings or habitats of cockroaches or mosquitoes by direct spraying or coating. Or this compound is included in pieces of paper or cloth, microcasules or sticks and placed in the above places.
