Abstract

PURPOSE:To make compact and uniform fixing possible by providing a means having an electric conductor and a dielectric on at least a part on the outer side thereof. CONSTITUTION:Microwaves propagate in the direction of an arrow 14 in a high frequency applying means 13, and the toner on a recording material 7 is fixed by the dielectric heating deveoped by the electromagnetic field leaking from the means 13. The means 13 is constituted of an electric conductor 15 and a dielecric 16 of ceramics or the like coating this conductor 15. It is equally well to increase the leakage of the electric field in the dielectric on the recording body side and to utilize the microwaves more effectively by differing the dielectric constant of the dielectric 16 on the side near the material 7 and the side further therefrom. Also it is equally well to use a conductor of a flat plate, and to provide the dielectric parts of different dielectric constants on both surfaces thereof.
