Abstract

PURPOSE:To miniaturize an electrode and to lower the impedance of the electrode, by directly sticking a polymer film derived from a hydroxyaromatic compound on the surface of an electrically conductive body. CONSTITUTION:An insulating material 13 is covered around an electrically conductive body 11 and a prescribed polymer film 12 is fixed on its tip end to cover the surface by an electrolytic oxidation polymerization method. The film 12 is made of such a polymer of a hydroxyaromatic compound as shown by the general formulaIwherein Ar is an aromatic group, each R is a substituent and m is O or an effective valence. An aromatic group Ar is optionally either a monocyclic type or a polycyclic type and a substituent R is an alkyl radical, a methyl radical or an alyl radical. For example, 2,6- and 3,5-dimethylphenol, 2-, 3- and 4-hydroxypyridine, o- and m-benzyl alcohol are used for said hydroxyaromatic compounds. Thus constituted pH sensor can be miniaturized to the extent of the working limit of the body 11 because it is unnecessary to provide a room of a standard solution and also, is made to have low impedance because the film resistance is very small.
