Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce an operation time, and to mold powder sintered articles of high quality and high density by using powder of the grain sizes controlled to the sizes larger than the diameters of the openings of the materials to be molded for a pressure transmission medium in a hot hydrostatic pressurizing treatment.
CONSTITUTION: A material 2 to be molded is loaded into a metallic capsule 6 in such a way as not to contact with the metallic capsule and a pressure transmission medium 12 is filled in the space therebetween. Powder of a high m.p. material controlled to the particle sizes larger than the diameters of the openings of the surface of the material 2 is used for said pressure transmission medium. After the medium 12 is packed and the material 2 is thoroughly embedded therein, a cover 10 is welded to the capsule 6 to tightly close the capsule, then the inside of the capsule 6 is evacuated to a vacuum through an air releasing pipe 11. The midpart of the pipe 11 is welded to seal the inside of the capsule 6, whereby the body to be molded is formed. This is put in an environment of high temp. and high pressure so that the high temp. and high pressure are made to act upon the material 2 through the capsule 6 and the medium 12. The capsule 6 is then cut, the medium 12 is removed and the sintered body is taken out.
