Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce the operating voltage, and obtain a cathode with durability as well as enough physical strength by forming a metal or metal compound layer on a display panel base plate by plasma jet flame coating, and constituting an electrode by use of the said layer. CONSTITUTION:A wiring pattern for a cathode 4 is formed on a back glass plate 2 by subjecting a metal such as Ni, Fe or Cu to plasma jet flame coating. After that, an emitter 8 of, for example, 10-50mu thickness is provided at a cathode part, which forms an electric-discharge cell 5, by subjecting a metal having a small work function, such as Mg or a misch metal (an alloy consisting of La, Ce and Fe), to plasma jet flame coating. The cathode prepared by the above mentioned plasma jet flame coating can have enough durabilty, since metal powder is fused to the cathode and the cathode can have sufficient thickness. Besides, the operating voltage of a gas electric-discharge display panel can be decreased, and the function of the above display panel can be increased.
