Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent a reflected electron beam and secondary electrons produced by a electron beam bombarding a mesh from reaching a fluorescent screen, by providing a mesh electrode having openings with a particular form.
CONSTITUTION: A mesh electrode 23 comprises a mesh consisting of a first metal member 18 and a second metal layer 19 applied thereto, wherein the first metal member 18 consisting of platinum serves as one electrde and the second member 19, consisting of copper or nickel etc., is grown through electroplating process. During the electroplating process, the electroplating solution, time, current density, and temperature etc. are suitably set so that the cross-section of the second metal member 19 will have a projected portion 21 and a flat portion 22. Thus, the electron beam incident on the flat portion 22 and on the first metal member 18 is reflected toward the electron gun 6 and is prevented from bombarding the fluorescent screen 1, so that halation near the spot 6 appearing on the fluorescent screen 1 can be eliminated and the faint brightness can also be decreased.
