Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain titled urethane foam with electrical resistance variable depending on use or purpose, by dispersing a water-dispersible carbon-based electrically-conductive powder in water and adding a self-crosslinkable water-dispersible binder followed by impregnating the resulting dispersion in an urethane foam.
CONSTITUTION: A dispersion made up of (A) a water-dispersible electrically- conductive powder consisting of a carbon black-polymer resin prepared by the branching polymerization of a vinyl monomer on the surface of a carbon black powder (e.g. furnace black), (B) 5W15pts.wt. of a self-crosslinkable water-dispersible binder (e.g., a polyacrylic ester), and (C) 100pts.wt. of water is impregnated in an urethane foam. The resulting foam is then heated to expel the water contained, while carrying out a crosslinking reaction to uniformly set the component (A) to the surface of the foamed structure, thus obtaining the objective urethane foam.
USE: Electrical resistance elements consisting of sheet heating element, etc.
