PURPOSE:To enable to detect a knock accurately by using a comparator consisting of an AND combination of the first and second comparators, wherein the first comparator employs the average of the outputs from knock sensors as a reference signal, while the second comparator uses a preset voltage. CONSTITUTION:In the case where an inverted input terminal voltage Vco of the comparator 239 is preset at the voltage required for detecting an original knock signal, when a BGL signal is lower than the preset voltage Vco the output from the comparator 238 is given priority because of the ANS combination of the comparators 236, 238, so that a knocking pulse (a pulse train signal) is outputted at a connecting poit PI only when the original knock signal is supplied. On the other hand, when the engine revolution rate is incareased and the BGL voltage level is raised above the preset voltage Vco to reach such a level that the knock signal can be detected, the output of the comparator 236 is preferentially outputted.
