PURPOSE:To prevent a thermosensitive recording head from temperature rising while maintaining the contrast of an image under the possible best condition, by thinning a part of an image signal in response to the temperature of the thermosensitive recording head. CONSTITUTION:A signal S3 is one produced by delaying an output signal S2 from a NAND gate 10, which becomes ''0'' only when each bit S/R9 of 24 bits becomes ''1'', by S/R 11 of 12 bits. The signal S3, only when black information contained in a serial signal S1 is 24 bits or more in continuation, synchronizes with the beginging part of the black information and becomes ''0''. The signal S3 becomes one produced by delaying the signal S2, which returns to ''1'' at the final part of the black information, by a value corresponding to a half of a S/R 9 bit number. Consequently, if the temperature of a head 1 during operation rises and exceeds a certain value, only the central part of the block information whose picture element number is 24 bits or more, from the black information contained in an image signal S4 is periodically substituted by white information, so that a heat density generated at the head 1 is lowered to prevent the temperature rising.
