Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the operability of an air micrometer, by a method wherein the intensity of the force of a spring to energize a valve body toward a valve seat is set so that the valve is opened when measurement is conducted but closed when no measurement is performed, according to the change in the back pressure of a measuring head. CONSTITUTION:When no measurement is performed, the back pressure of a measuring head, i.e., the pressure in a pressure chamber 5 is low, so that the valve-opening force applied to a diaphragm valve body 10 is smaller than the valve-opening force of a spring 11 applied to the rear surface of the valve body 10. Consequently, the valve body 10 contacts with a valve seat 9, closing the same. On the other hand, when measurement is conducted, for instance, when the measuring head is inserted into a bore to be measured of an object, the back pressure of the measuring head, i.e., the pressure in the pressure chamber 5 rises, causing the valve-opening force applied to the valve body 10 to become larger than the valve-opening force of the spring 11. Consequently, the valve body 10 is displaced against the energization force of the spring 11 so as to open the valve seat, allowing the compressed air to flow out from an outlet 3 through an outlet-side passage 6.
