PURPOSE: To obtain an allylic ether useful as an intermediate for medicines or perfumes or as a perfume economically and in high yield, by reacting an allyl alcohol with an alcohol in the presence of a ruthenium (III) salt.
CONSTITUTION: An allyl alcohol expressed by formulaI(R1, R2, R3, R4 and R5 are H, alkyl, alkenyl or aryl) is reacted with an alcohol expressed by the formula R6OH (R6 is alkyl or alkenyl) in the presence of a ruthenium (III) salt expressed by the formula RuXYZ (X, Y and Z are halogen, H, alkoxyl, acyloxy, silyl or OH), e.g. RuCl3, RuBr3 or Ru3O(OAc)7, at room temperature W80°C to give an allylic ether expressec by formulas II and III. The compound expressed by formulaIis easily available as an industrial raw material.
