PURPOSE:To make tuning easy and to enable smooth switching, by the switch from monaural to stereo state with reduced de-tuning noise in the reception of stereo broadcast. CONSTITUTION:A main channel signal detector 1 picks up an L+R signal and a sub-channel detector 2 picks up an L-R signal, an S curve signal and SK signal, from an intermediate frequency supplied from an intermediate amplifier. An electric field strength detector 3 generates an output when the reception electric field strength is a specified level or more, and a pilot signal detector picks up a pilot signal included in the L-R. A window comparator 5 produces an output, when the SK signal is at a constant range and tuning is taken. When the electric field strength is a constant value or more and a pilot signal is present, an AND gate 12 produces an output and a light emitting diode 14 illuminates. Further, when tuning is made, a switch circuit 10 is operative with the output of an AND gate 9 and L and R signals are obtained with a matrix circuit 11.
