Abstract
PURPOSE: To easily control shapes of materials and crowns and to realize effective rollings, by ingeniously combining rolling rolls with movable sleeves and small diameter work rolls in a continuous four high rolling mill composed of plural stands.
CONSTITUTION: In a continuous four high rolling mill composed of plural stands, rolling rolls with movable sleeves 1 are used at one stand as a minimum. When these rolling rolls 1 are used for the purpose of controlling shapes, they are installed at stands in the downstream, and, when they are used for the purpose of performing strong reductions on thick materials or reducing edge drops, they are installed at stands in the upper stream. Then, the ratio α of the outer diameter of the work roll d2 to the outer diameter of the backup roll d1(α=d2/d1) is set in a range of 0.10W0.30, and this ratio is applied to ≥1 stands. In this way, capabilities of controlling rolled shapes of products subjected to strong reduction rolling are improved. When this method is applied, effective rollings which give many advantages become possible.
