Abstract

PURPOSE:To eliminate the surface temp. irregularities of a steel material, to make quality uniform and to improve yield by rolling the steel material while keeping the same coated with a heat insulating material on a suitable surface prior to hot rolling of said steel material or during the course of rolling. CONSTITUTION:Piror to hot rolling of a steel material or in the earliest possible time after rough rolling, a heat insulating material consisting of inorg. fibers and a binder is coated on surfaces of >=1 faces out of the side faces, end faces, top face and bottom face of the steel material. The surface temp. irregularities of the steel material are eliminated by the heat insulation treatment in this way, after which it is subjected to hot rolling or hot finish rolling. Then, the heat insulating material is stripped in a rolling process, and the rolled steel plate of uniform quality is produced.
