Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a focus error signal and a tracking error signal, by providing prisms in parallel to a light axis and having different deflections, located at left and right around the light axis, and receiving the light flux passing through the prisms at a two-split photodetector. CONSTITUTION:A light reflected from an objective 12 is picked up with a beam splitter 3 toward prisms 41, 42, and deflected up and down with the prisms 41, 42. The light separated at the beam splitter 3 enters the prism 41, but since the prism 41 has no capability being deflected to the condensing direction of a cylindrical mirror 43, the light is condensed on a split line of an optical disc 44. Other arbitrary light passing through the prism 41 passes through the prism 41 again after reflection at the cylindrical mirror 43. A focus error signal can be detected with the Foucault system from differential signals of optical detectors 45, 47.
