Abstract

PURPOSE: To control the pump so as to reduce the suction rate when the cavitation is generated by a method wherein the sound or vibration produced at the generation of cavitation is memorized and the generation of cavitation during the running of the pump is judged from said memorized information.
CONSTITUTION: The output of an acoustic measuring instrument 8 mounted on a cargo oil pump 2 is inputted in a control unit 9 equipped with a computer. The pump 2 is actually operated under the condition that the sound produced is measured throughout the operation and the sound pressure, sound frequency and the like at the generation of cavitation are memorized in the control unit 9. Once the pump 2 is operated and, when the liquid level of cargo oil lowers to the predetermined position, the control unit 9 is put into operation to successively measure the sound produced so as to decide the generation of cavitation by comparing the measured value with the memorized value. When the control unit 9 decides the generation of cavitation, a valve 7 is automatically throttled or the rotational frequency of the pump 2 is automatically lowered.
