Abstract
PURPOSE: A powder of iron ore is used as a catalyst for the fluidized bed pyrolysis to pyrolyze heavy oil of high sulfur content into light fractions as well as to effect the desulfurization of the heavy oil economically by use of the iron ore.
CONSTITUTION: Particles of iron ore and heavy oil of high sulfur content are fed into the fluidized bed pyrolyzer 3 where, as the particles are being kept fluidized, the heavy oil is pyrolyzed into light oil and decomposition gases. The carbon formed as a by-product during the pyrolysis is made to adhere to iron ore particles and simultaneously to capture the sulfure in the heavy oil. Then, the iron ore particles adhering to carbon and containing sulfure is continuously taken out of the pyrolyzer and light oil of low sulfur content and decomposition gases are extracted from the pyrolyzer. Further, the iron ore particles adhering to carbon and containing sulfur are sintered to produce the sintered ore 34 and simultaneously the exhaust gas containing SOX formed during the sintering is sent to the flue gas desulfurization facility 52 to effect desulfurization.
