Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture the titled container having high transparency and mar resistance and suitable as a container of cosmetics, etc., by biaxially blow molding a polyester containing fine inorganic powder.
CONSTITUTION: A polyester (pref. having an intrinsic viscosity of ≥0.5) is incorporated with 10W2,000ppm, pref. 20W800ppm of inorganic powder (e.g. silica) having an average particle diameter of ≤30μ in the form of a 0.5W20wt% ethylene glycol slurry, at an arbitrary stage in the preparation process, pref. at or before the middle stage of the polycondensation. The amount of the inorganic powder is, e.g. pref. about 40ppm for silica with 4μ diameter and pref. about 500ppm for silica with 300mμ diameter for attaining balanced transparency and mar resistance. The objective container can be manufactured from the composition by conventional biaxial blow molding. Higher orientation ratio results in higher mar resistance. The orientation ratio is pref. ≥1.5 in terms of the volume ratio of the preformed container to the blown and oriented container.
