Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform an accurate measurement of the coiling condition of the hoop steel, by a method wherein an uneven amount at a side of a band steel coil is measured as a change in a distance from a measuring point to each surface, and is continuously measured in the diametral direction of the coil.
CONSTITUTION: Distance measuring devices 2 and 3, being situated at distances L1 and L2 to opposite sides of a hoop steel coil 1 from the devices 2 and 3, respectively, are positioned at a distance L0 by means of a retaining member 4. Through the horizontal movement of the hoop steel coil 1 placed on a fixed stand 5, the distance measuring devices 2 and 3 measure distance information in the direction of diameter. The outputs of the distance measuring devices 2 and 3 are stored in a memory unit 9 according to instruction of an operational controller 10 via A/D converters 7, 8 and an input circuit 8. The operational controller 10 calculate the change amount of the hoop steel end and the width of the hoop steel coil 1, and in case the result exceeds an allowable width, an alarm device 13 is actuated via an output circuit 11. The calculated results of the operational control circuit 10 are recorded in a recorder 12.
