Abstract

PURPOSE:To manufacture scanning stylus at low cost with excellent producibility by eliminating the need for cutting and polishing work performed until a stylus material is obtained, by using a rod-shaped columnar body having a flat surface on a flank side as the stylus material and by working its one end into a stylus tip part in a prescribed shape. CONSTITUTION:A rod-shaped columnar body 21 which has a flat surface as an electrode plane 24 on a flank side is used as a stylus material, and one end of the stylus material is worked into a stylus tip part in a prescribed shape. After an electrode 24 is formed by being adhered to the flat surface of the flank side of a long rod-shaped sapphire material 21 in an elliptic prism shape, the sapphire material 21 is cut to prescribed length. This cut piece is chucked and its tip is polished into surfaces 22a, 22b and 23 to obtain a prescribed stylus tip shape, thus obtaining a scanning stylus 20 for a video disk device.
