Abstract

PURPOSE: To suppress the deposition of zinc salts in blast furnace gas dust collecting water, particularly basic zinc carbonate and prevent the scale formation in a blast furnace by adding a copolymer of a maleic acid and amylene to the blast furnace gas dust collecting water.
CONSTITUTION: Maleic acid and amylene providing structural units of suitable molar ratio are added into a suitable org. solvent, and further a polymn. initiator such as peroxide is added under heating, whereby a maleic acid-amylene copolymer of 500W50,000mol.wts. is synthesized. This copolymer is added to arbitrary places in a blast furnace gas dust collecting water system (the system from a solid-liquid separator such as thickener, etc. to a dust collector). Although the amt. of addition varies with the pH of the dust collecting water, the concn. of zinc ions, etc., the addition of 0.1W50ppm to circulating water is preferable. Said copolymer is used alone, and it is equally well to make combination use of known scale preventing agents such as polyphosphonic acid and phosphonic acid salts or the like.
