Abstract

PURPOSE:To form a phase type optical record with superior sensitivity, resolution, diffracting effect and shelf stability by using a photopolymer of polyvinylcinnamylidene acetate. CONSTITUTION:A substrate is coated with a photosensitive polymer having cinnamylidene groups represented by general formula I (where R1 is H, methyl, phenyl or cyano, R2 is H, methyl or phenyl and X is -CO- or -CO-CO-) at the side chain. By irradiating laser beams, the polymer is cross-linked to record a refractive index distribution corresponding to the intensity of the irradiated laser. Cinnamylideneacetyl, alpha-methylcinnamylideneacetyl, alpha-phenylcinnamylideneacetyl or the like is especially suitable, and the stock polymer is polyvinyl alcohol, phenoxy resin, polyvinylphenol or the like.
