Abstract

PURPOSE:To heat the liquid crystal efficiently up to its operatable temperature range, by using a display tranaparent conductive electrode as a heating resistor. CONSTITUTION:The display electrodes 4 composed of the transparent conductive film are all connected in a body, and both the ends of the connected electrode are led to terminals A and B which are provided to the inside surfaces of the upper plate electrode substrate via a conductive material 9 that connects the transparent conductive films on each surface of the upper and lower electrode substrates. The DC or AC voltage is applied between the terminals A and B to ensure an electric conduction for the electrode 4 composed of the transparent conductive film. Thus the electrode 4 functions as a heat generation resistor to give a highly efficient heating to the liquid crystal. The liquid crystal can be heated by closing a switch that senses the ambient temperature and then ensures an automatic heating or connecting on a circuit the segments of the display electrodes provided on the upper plate electrode substrate.
