Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce the titled pigment having high hiding power, by a method wherein a coated layer composed of hydrated metal oxides contg. a bivalent metal as one of the metal component is formed on the surfaces of white inorg. pigment particles, and the resulting particles are contracted with an aq. alkali metal soln. or a suspension of an anionic salt-forming type org. pigment.
CONSTITUTION: Solutions of soluble salts of metals (mentioned below), a soln. of a neutralizing agent and, if necessary, CO2 or a soln. of a soluble carbonate are contacted with a suspension of white inorg. pigment particles to deposit the hydrated oxides of the metals or the hydrated metal oxides-insoluble carbonate composite on the surfaces of the white inorg. pigment particles. Then the product is filtered off, washed, dried and calcined. The resulting particles are contacted with an aq. alkali salt soln. or a suspension of an anionic salt-forming org. pigment to form a colored outer layer. In this way, the titled pigment can be produced in which the white inorg. pigment particles having high hiding power constitute a central nucleus and colored material constitutes an outer layer on the central necleus, said colored material being composed of the hydrated metal oxides or the hydrated metal oxides-insoluble carbonate compd. composite. The metal component of the hydrated metal oxides consists of (a) Al and one bivalent metal selected from Ba, Sr and Mn, (b) Al, the bivalent metal and Si, or (c) Al, the bivalent metal and Zr.
