Abstract

PURPOSE:To simplify the structure of a rotary engine of the type in which a double cylindrical rotor is rotated in a frame, by forming an exhaust passage and an intake passage in the rotor and exhaust ports and intake ports in the side face of the frame. CONSTITUTION:The inner surface of the frame of this engine is determined to conform to the outer contour of three circles having the same diameter which are drawn such that any one of the three cricles passes the centers of the remaining two circles. In this engine, the change in the volume of the space defined between the frame and the rotor that is caused when a double cylindrical rotor 13 is rotated in the frame is utilized. The rotor 13 is formed wtih an exhaust passage 20 and an intake passage 21. Further, intake ports 22 and exhaust ports 23 are formed in the side face of the frame. With such an arrangement, it is enabled to omit complicated valves since each cycle of engine operation proceeds when the intake port is registered with the intake passage and the exhaust port is registered with the exhaust passage.
