Abstract

PURPOSE:To measure the distance between the plated steel plate and the gas wiper nozzle in a contactless manner by combining a proximity switch with a contact-type displacement meter such as a differential transformer. CONSTITUTION:The proximity switch 5 is provided which is so adjusted as to be kept at a fixed distance a from the plated steel plate 1a delivered from a plating tank 2, and the contact-type displacement meter 4 is provided which has a stationary element 4a connected to the switch 5 and a movable element 4b connected to the gas wiper nozzle 3. The distance l between the steel plate 1a and the tip end of the nozzle 3 is measured as l=b'+K, where b' is the output of the meter 4 indicating the distance b between the meter 4 and the connecting position of the movable element 4b, K is a constant set by a setter 11 and is equal to a+c-d, where c is the distance between the switch 5 and the meter 4, and d is the distance between the tip end of the nozzle 3 and the connecting position of the movable element 4b.
