Abstract

PURPOSE: To extend a life of the blast furnace by changing inner lining refractories in a lower shaft part of the blast furnace to high alumina or chamotte refractories having gas pores impregnated with silica sol to enhance alkaki resistance.
CONSTITUTION: To a cooling box 2 of an inner side of an iron shell 1 in the lower shaft part of the blast furnace, the alumina-silica type refractories 4 impregnated with the silica sol in an amount of about 4% are lined. Or, chamotte bricks 5 are moreover lined on the silica sol impregnated alumina-silica type refractories 4 enclosing a cooling plate 3 of the inner side of the iron shell 1. Because the silica sol impregnated refractories are not reacted with an alkali contained in a stock material introduced into the shaft furnace and, therefore, expansion and reduction of mechanical strength of the refractories due to alkali bursting are not generated, the life of the refractories in the blast furnace, moreover, the life of the blast furnace can be extended.
