Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound useful as a β-adrenergic neuronal blocking agent safely in high yield, by using 2,3-epoxypropanol-1 and 2,3-dihydropyran as starting materials by seven processes through the conversion of six novel intermediates, etc.
CONSTITUTION: 2,3-Epoxypropanol-1 is reacted with 2,3-dihydropyran, to give a compound shown by the formula I, which is reacted with benzyl-isopropylamine, to give a compound shown by the formula II. The compound shown by the formula II is reacted with a benzyldihalide in the presence of a base to give a reaction product, which is hydrolyzed in acidic conditions, to give a compound shown by the formula III. The compound shown by the formula III is reacted with dicyclohexylcarbodiimide, and reacted with a compound shown by the formula Ar-OH (Ar is 1-naphthyl or 4-indolyl) to form a compound shown by the formula IV, which is hydrolyzed to give the titled compound shown by the formula V. All the reaction intermediates are novel compounds.
