Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled material having improved moldability and strength characteristics without causing greasiness, by impregnating a fiber reinforcing base material with a blend comprising of a liquid resol type phenolic resin and a specific alkaline earth metal compound, followed by aging.
CONSTITUTION: (A) A blend comprising 100pts.wt. liquid resol type phenolic resin (a molar ratio of an aldehyde to phenol is preferably 1.0W2.5:1), 1W10pts.wt. alkaline earth metal compound [preferably magnesium oxide (hydroxide)] consisting essentially of an oxide (hydroxide) of Ca and/or Mg, 30W200pts.wt. filler (preferably aluminum hydroxide), 1W10pts.wt. releasing agent (preferably stearic acid, etc.), and, if necessary, a curing agent, is impregnated into (B) a fiber reinforcing base material (the content in the ingredient A is preferably 25W50wt%) and aged, to give the desired material.
EFFECT: A molded article having improved mechanical strength, flame-retardancy, and heat resistance is obtained.
