Abstract
PURPOSE:To chamfer efficiently and economically by conducting a generating cutting operation while imparting an amount of addendum modification for generation of an undercut to a hob relative to a gear, the hob having a normal-to-teeth pitch larger than the normal-to-axis pitch of the gear to be chamfered. CONSTITUTION:A hob 6 fitted on a cutter shaft 7 is provided with a normal-to- teeth pitch PH selected to be larger than the normal-to-axis pitch PG of a gear 1 to be cut. The positional relationship between the gear 1 and the hob 6 is set by making the space center line L1 of the gear 1 identical with the generating center L2 of the cutting blade of the hob 6 and then imparting an amount of addendum modification for generation of an undercut to the hob 6. Then the early stage of generating tooth cutting operation is conducted between each adjacent pair of teeth 2a, 2b of the thus tooth-cut gear 1 by a hob of a module larger than that of the gear 1, to carry out chamfering efficiently and economically.
