Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve efficiency of operation and controllability of lathe, by disposing a lathe vertically, inclining the work supporting surface backward, providing an inclined surface for discharging chips, and disposing a profiling unit with inclination. CONSTITUTION:Work supporting surface 5 is formed with backward inclination angle theta1, which is selected, for instance, at 75 deg.. Work is supported between center 15 of spindle unit 14 and center 8 of tailstock 9 and machined. Inclined surface 23 for discharging chips is formed with inclination angle theta2 to frame 17, so that chips are discharged backward smoothly. Profiling unit 24 is mounted on frame 3 in freely slidable manner. When machining the peripheral surface of work is completed, the profiling unit 24 is retracted and in turn 13 is moved forward for machining the end faces of work.
