Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the air oxidation of molten metal in the process of transferring the same from a ladle into a well and purify the molten metal by pouring the molten metal into the well which has been poured with molten slag.

CONSTITUTION: In the state that the outflow port 5a of a well 5 is held closed with a stopper 6, molten slag (a) is poured into the well 5. After this, molten metal is poured into the well 5 from a ladle 7. Upon completion of pouring of the molten metal (b), completion of floating of the molten slag (a) included into the molten metal (b) and settling of the molten metal (b), the stopper 6 is removed to allow the molten metal (b) in the well 5 to flow into the mold inside 2 through a sprue 3. Here, the kind of the molten slag (a) to be poured into the well 5 and the rate of pouring of the molten metal (b) into the well 5 are determined by the kind of intended castings and the cleanliness of the molten metal (b). From the above, the air oxidation of the molten metal (b) is prevented and since the molten metal (b) is passed through the molten slag (a) in the well 5, it receives refining effect and is thereby purified.
