Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce a caking material (heavy oil) having excellent properties (C/H atomic ratio, aromatic character, solubility) and useful for the production of coke for metallurgy, by a method wherein a petroleum heavy oil is uniformly mixed with a coal heavy oil and the mixt. is heat-treated to reform the oils.
CONSTITUTION: A petroleum heavy oil is uniformly mixed with a coal heavy oil in a ratio of the petroleum heavy oil to the coal heavy oil of 1:9W9:1 (parts) by means of a high-speed rotating stirring tank, a flow jet mixer, etc. (It is preferred to add 0.5W10% of a polyamide or polyamine dispersant). The mixt. is heat-treated at a temp. of 150W350°C in the presence of a solid acid catalyst or at a temp. of 350W 500°C in the absence of a solid acid catalyst for 10minW5hr. The treatment may be carried out in any reaction atmosphere of the atmosphere, a hydrogen-contg. gas or an inert gas (e.g. N2).
