Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide the titled glass having excellent IR-transmittance and processability, and useful for the window glass of a temperature detector of an electronic range, etc., by adding Bi2O3, Sb2O3, and/or TeO2 to a glass composed of GeO2-PbO- Al2O3 at a specific weight ratio. CONSTITUTION:An infrared transmitting glass composed of 10-60wt% of GeO2, 20-70wt% of PbO, 1-15wt% of Al2O3 and 1-15wt% of at least one component selected from Bi2O3, Sb2O3 and TeO2 as essential components. The glass can be prepared easily by melting a mixture of oxides, carbonates, hydroxides, etc. of the necessary components at predetermined ratios. The absorption of IR light with OH groups bonded to the glass components can be easily eliminated by bubbling dry air into the molten mixture through a pipe made of, e.g. platinum, inserted into the mixture. The glass thus prepared has high mechanical strength, etc., and affords the practically sufficient IR transmission to a wavelength of 6mu.
