Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the contamination of the surface or the inside of an optical fiber stock with impurities, by providing the protecting vessel of the titled apparatus with a detachable cylindrical soot-protecting chamber having a lid to close the chamber in case of taking out of the vessel. CONSTITUTION:In the apparatus for the preparation of optical fiber stock by the vapor-phase axial deposition, consisting of a protecting vessel 12, an oxyhydrogen flame burner 14, a supporting rod 13, etc., a soot-protecting cylindrical chamber 16 covering the soot 20 is detachably attached in the protecting vessel 12. The narrowed end 22 of the soot-protecting chamber 16 opposite to the oxyhydrogen flame burner 14 is furnished with an opening through which the growing part 21 of the soot 20 is projected. The soot-protecting chamber 16 is furnished with a detachable lid 33 to close the opening of the chamber. When the soot grows to a predetermined length, the chamber 16 containing the soot 20 is closed with the lid 33, and taken out of the protecting vessel 12. The contamination of the stock with impurities can be prevented by the presence of the lid 33.
