Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain titled phosphor which has excellent reflectance and luminous brightness and is suitable for the phosphor screen of cathode-ray tube, by a method wherein a coated layer consisting of a composite compound of indium sulfide and sodium sulfate is formed on the surface of europium-activated yttrium oxysulfide phosphor which is used as a core.
CONSTITUTION: Finely divided indium oxide having an average particle diameter of 0.1W1μ is dispersed in water. Europium-activated yttrium oxysulfide phosphor is mixed with the dispersion system. The mixt. is dried to obtain a powder. 0.5W 3wt% of sodium carbonate and 2W10wt% of sulfur are mixed with the dried powder. The mixt. is calcined at a temp. of 800W900°C for 1W2hr to coat the core phosphor with a composite compound of indium sulfide and sodium sulfate. Then the product is baked at a temp. of 400W600°C to obtain in desired phosphor.
