PURPOSE: To provide titled liquid crystal which excels in chemical stability and time-sharing driving characteristics, is orientated stably over a wide temperature range and exhibits rapid response speed, consisting of four kinds of specified compounds.
CONSTITUTION: A 4'-substd.-4-cyanobiphenyl of formula II (wherein R is n- CmH2m+1, or a radical of formula III), a cpd. of formula IV (wherein R1 is a radical of formula III or V; R2 is a radical of formula VI or VII) and/or a cpd. of formula VIII (wherein R is n-CmH2m+1), are mixed with a 4-substd.-phenyltrans-(equatorial- equatorial) cyclohexyl carboxylate of formulaI(wherein R1 is n-CmH2m+1, n- CmH2m+1-O; R2 is n-CqH2q+1, n-CqH2q+1-O; m, q are 1W40).
