PURPOSE:To lap the front face of a magnetic head with high efficiency, by transporting a lapping tape at a low speed while putting the magnetic head in oscillatory motion. CONSTITUTION:Feed roller 11 transports lapping tape 2 wound around supply reel 7 at a low speed via pinch roller 10 and guide rollers 1 and 1'. Magnetic head supply/extraction mechanism C supplies magnetic head 3 to jig cylinder 14. Sliding cylinder 8 descends and at the same time, shaking mechanism 12 for magnetic head 3 operates to perform lapping work with lapping tape 2. On the completion of the lapping work, shaking mechanism 12 stops and sliding cylinder 8 ascends, so that magnetic head 3 is taken out by supply/extraction mechanism C.
