PURPOSE: To prevent mud viscosity decrease with time, which is used for mud engineering process, by a method wherein Ca(OH)2 or a material capable of affording Ca(OH)2, and an org. deterioration inhibitor and, if necessary, a dispersant are blended with mud.
CONSTITUTION: 0.01W1wt% of Ca(OH)2 or a material capable of affording Ca(OH)2 (e.g. CaO or cement) and 0.01W0.5wt% of an org. deterioration inhibitor (e.g. salicylic acid or an org. sulfur cpd.) and, if necessary, 0.05W0.3wt% of a dispersant (e.g. sodium polyphosphate or sodium ligninsulfonate), are blended with mud. Mud viscosity decrease with time can be prevented by the combined use of small amounts of the alkaline material and the deterioration inhibitor.
