Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled material which can keep good air permeability when the material is used by burrying it in plant-growing soil, by a method wherein a water absorbing resin powder is interposed between a water-permeable sheet and a heat-shrinkable film, the sheet and the film are bonded with each other at their peripheral edges, and the resulting composite is heated.
CONSTITUTION: A water insolube and water-absorbing resin powder 3 in a dispersed state is interposed between a water-permeable nonwoven sheet 1 made of a chemical synthetic fiber and a heat-shrinkable stretched film 2. The nonwoven sheet 1 and the film 2 are bonded with each other at their peripheral edges 4 by a mehod such as heat sealing, bonding, etc. Then a heat treatment is carried out, to shrink the heat-shrinkable stretched film 2 and to expand the nonwoven sheet 1, whereby a space 5 is formed inside. When the obtd. water absorbing and retaining material 6 is used, the material 6 is immersed in water or exposed to water spray, whereby water is absorbed through the nonwoven sheet 1 by the resin powder 3 which is present inside the material. In the inside space 5, the resin powder 3 is expanded to a gruel or a rice cake state.
