Abstract
PURPOSE:To decrease the effect owing to the fluctuations of water flow linear velocity by providing water flow parts having preventing means for adsorbed grain falling making use of angle of repose and adsorbed grain falling ports having specific diameters to the supporting plates of the contact beds in respective stages. CONSTITUTION:One or a plurality of drop ports 8 of adsorbed grains sufficiently large than the grain sizes of adsorbed grains are provided to each supporting plate 2 having water flow ports 5 applied with preventing means for adsorbed grain falling and the flow linear velocity of the raw water flowing upward through the drop ports 8 is set above the speed at which the adsorbed grains are prevented from falling downward through the drop ports 8 by the upward flow, in a normal time. Intermittently, the water flow linear velocity is kept below said speed of the water flow is stopped and the adsorbed grains are dropped from the drop ports only during that time to move the adsorbed grains in downward flow, or the water linear velocity of the raw water flowing upward through the drop ports 8 is maintained at the veloicity at which the adsorbed grains can fall through the drop port at a predetermined flow rate, whereby the adsorbed grains are moved by the downward flow.
