Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce in high yield a highly chlorinated copper phthalocyanine which is vivid yellowish green and has excellent coloring power, by a method wherein copper phthalocyanine is dissolved in an acid chloride solvent of an oxyacid of sulfur, S is added to the resulting soln., and then the soln. is chlorinated.
CONSTITUTION: Copper phthalocyanine is dissolved in (A) chlorosulfonic acid or in (B) pyrosulfuryl chloride as an acid chloride solvent of an oxyacid of sulfur in an amount ranging from 3 to 50 times by weight of the copper phthalocyanine. S (chloride) as a catalyst is added to the resulting soln. in an amount of 14W200wt% based on the amount of (A) or in an amount of 8W200wt% based on the amount of (B). The mixt. is contacted with chlorine gas in the presence or absence of other chlorination catalysts at a pressure of 1W20kg/cm2 G and at a temp. of 20W120°C. The desired highly chlorinated copper phthalocyanine which is crystallized out from the chlorinated product is separated. Then copper phthalocyanine is added to the separated soln. The soln. is contacted with chlorine gas. The crystallized highly chlorinated copper phthalocyanine is separated. The above procedure is repeated.
