Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove foreign matters in a snout in a short period without stopping plating operation by a method in which an aperture provided between the surface of molten metal and the end face of the snout is sealed up by raising the surface of molte metal by means of supersonic wave, etc. and the seal is removed when the foreign matters are to be removed.
CONSTITUTION: The surface of a molten metal 4 is raised by regulating the output of a supersonic wave generator 18 so as to make it contact with the end of a snout, whereby sealing up the snout from the open air. The insides of the snout 1 and a reduction furnace 2 are always kept under reductive condition. On the other hand, to remove foreign matters in the snout 1, an inert gas is injected 16 into the snout 1 and then the output of the generator 18 is regulated to form a small aperture between the tip of the snout 1 and the metal 4. As a result, foreign matters flows out together with the inert gas flowing toward the outside of the snout 1 from the aperture and then are removed. Afterwards, the output of the generator 18 is again raised to seal up the snout 1 from the open air and at the same time a blast valve 16 is closed. The foreign matters removal operation can be performed while continuing the plating operation of an object 5 to be plated.
