Abstract

PURPOSE: To attain a high thermal expansion coefficient and a high heat resistant temp. by forming a specified composition consisting of SiO2, Al2O3 and MgO into a certain shape followed by calcination.
CONSTITUTION: Material or glass powder having a composition consisting of, by weight, 47W53% SiO2, 32W39% Al2O3, 13W16% MgO and inevitable impurities is formed into a certain shaped and calcined at 1,300W1,450°C to manufacture a cordierite glass ceramic article. The thermal expansion coefficient of this article at 100W500°C is ≤1.2×10-6/°C, and the heat resistant temp. ≥1,375°C. In case of a composition consisting of 47.5W50.5% SiO2, 35W38.5% Al2O3, 13W15% MgO and inevitable impurities, the thermal expansion coefficient of the resulting article at 100W500°C is adjusted to ≤1×10-4/°C.
