Abstract

PURPOSE: To stop a core wire in compliance with the interruption of power supply and previously prevent the defects of weld zone by connecting a variable resistance in series to a core wire supply motor when MIG welding is stopped.
CONSTITUTION: A DC shunt motor 1' is used for a core wire supply motor 1, and the armature winding of the motor 1' is connected to a DC power source 12 via a switch 11 upon starting of welding. Then, the motor 1' rotates and causes a core wire 3 to be drawn out from a winding frame 4 by rollers 2. The wire is then supplied through a welding nozzle 5 to the groove 7 of base material 6, and electric power is supplied between the core wire 3 and the base material 6 from a power source 8. When the welding is stopped, the switch 11 changes over and the revolving energy of the motor 1' is consumed by a variable resistance 13. At this time, the resistance value of a variable resistance 13 is controlled to regulate braking force so that oversupplying or undersupplying of the core wire 3 is prevented from occuring.
