PURPOSE:To make it possible to utilize a character broadcast without sacrificing the picture of a TV broadcast program by making it possible to express the character broadcast by voice by generating a sound signal from code signals of characters, numbers, etc. CONSTITUTION:When a desired page number is inputted from keyboard 21, input processing circuit 22 compares the input with a page signal in a data signal and when the both agree with each other, the signal is converted from series to parallel by processing circuit 24 and written into RAM25. The signal written into RAM25 is read out to read ROM41 and the read data is decoded by linear forecasting decoding circuit 42. Further, digital sound synthesizing circuit 43 synthesizes a digital sound signal. This sound signal is converted by D/A converter 44 into an analog sound signal, which is supplied to loudspeaker 46 via amplifier 45. Therefore, characters, numbers, etc., displayed on picture tube 15 are expressed in sound through loudspeaker 46.
