Abstract
PURPOSE: To establish an excellent silencing effect by inserting an exhaust gas intake pipe perpendicularly to a flattened shell shape muffler body, approximately into the middle of its transverse length, forming silencing devices on the both sides of the pipe, and respectively securing exhaust gas outflow pipes inside those devices.
CONSTITUTION: Two shell members 1A, 1B made of a sheet metal are united at each fitting face 2 to make a muffler body 1. An exhaust gas intake pipe 5 connected to an exhaust manifold is inserted in the middle of the muffler body 1 at a right angle to its longitudinal direction. Exhaust gas ejection holes 6 are drilled through an area where the intake pipe 5 is disposed inside the muffler body 1 and silencing devices 7A, 7B are provided inside the muffler body 1 on the both left and right sides of the intake pipe 5. Those silencing devices 7A, 7B are provided with baffles 10A, 10B, 11A, 11B, respectively, of which each has a through hole 8A, 8B, 9A, 9B at a different point from each other. Exhaust gas outlet pipes 13A, 13B are connected inside the devices, respectively.
